Flash Mob Dance to Open 5th Annual Girls’ Tennis Tournament

A tennis court will become a dance floor when approximately 20 seniors and spectators perform a surprise “flash mob” line dance at the opening of the 5th Annual Lee County High School Invitational tennis tournament in Fort Myers on Feb. 28 and March 1, 2026.

Since the first tournament in 2021, over 120 teenage girls have participated. Thanks to 300 volunteers, personal donors and corporate sponsors, more than $40,000 has been raised for high school girls’ tennis programs. Past beneficiaries include Bonita Springs, Cape Coral, Dunbar, Fort Myers, Island Coast, Mariner High School, Oasis, Riverdale, Estero, North Fort Myers, and Bishop Verot high schools.

The mission of the Lee County Girls’ High School Invitational Tennis Tournament is to develop and grow young female tennis athletes and promote and enhance the opportunities for high school girl athletes to play competitive tennis with an emphasis on building confidence, self-esteem, athleticism, and sportsmanship.

The tournament was founded by Laurie Hamilton, inspired by her late sister, Sara Hamilton, a tennis professional for over 40 years who loved teaching children and young adults.

“The only sports for girls in high school were cheerleading and drill team,” Laurie Hamilton said about growing up in Kansas. “Tennis is a great sport to develop discipline, athleticism, sportsmanship, friendships, and self-esteem. Girls deserve to learn and practice these skills.”

The two-day event includes SHARE THE LOVE BOUTIQUE where gently used clothes, shoes, and gear donated by supporters from Lee County are given for FREE to local high school female tennis players.

The tournament and flash mob dance are scheduled for Feb. 28 and March 1 at The Landings Yacht, Golf and Tennis Club, 4425 S. Landings Drive, Fort Myers, FL 33919. For more information or to register as a competitor visit: leecountygirlshighschoolinvitational.org

Onsite or telephone interviews can be arranged with the founder, tennis pro, high school tennis coaches and players before or during the tournament.
