Chief Financial Officer

The Collaboratory Chief Financial Officer, as a member of the senior executive team, manages the financial operations of Collaboratory while working with both internal and external resources.

The CFO reports to the President & CEO. The chosen CFO will join a team committed to supporting Collaboratory’s mission and maintain fiduciary responsibility to the organization. Collaboratory is a regional community foundation with an evolved mission committed to coordinating the solving of Southwest Florida’s major social problems by 2040.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Establish / maintain / ensure compliance with financial policies, procedures and internal controls, including proper separation of duties and adherence to CAAP as well as local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Ensure the accuracy of financial statements and financial reporting and provide financial forecasting and strategies to meet Collaboratory’s strategic goals.
  • Drive the annual budget process, working with team members to identify operating expenses, capital expenditures, and program and grant budgets. Ensure compliance with IRS payout rules and self-imposed spending policy assumptions.
  • Oversee the annual audit, preparation and filing of Forms 990, and all other tax reporting requirements. Support the elected CPA firm by preparing all required documentation.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with the Board Treasurer as well as the Finance, Audit & Risk Committee and the Portfolio Oversight Committee.
  • Serve as the primary liaison to the outsourced investment management firm(s). Monitor and ensure adherence to Collaboratory’s investment policies.
  • Serve as internal consult for financial, operational, and community foundation matters to include program expansion as it relates to the alignment of financial strategies with the mission of Collaboratory.
  • Source and manage relationships with consultants, contractors, vendors, and any resource required to succeed in the position.
  • Attend board and board committee meetings as deemed appropriate, reporting on financial activities and issues.
  • Serve as a model for organizational culture where core values are both understood and embraced by team members.
  • Communicate and exhibit a commitment to equity in all internal and external relationships.

Essential Qualifications

  • 10+ years of professional experience in strategic leadership at a mission-driven organization, including non-profit accounting, legal, tax, and regulatory requirements.
  • Master’s degree in finance, accounting, or related field. CPA preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience providing compliant stewardship of financial programs, with clear capabilities with managerial accounting, cash basis accounting, and experience with investments and/or investment accounting, budgeting, and financial controls.
  • A strategic thinker with the ability to be an implementer, translating vision into precise and deliverable action steps, both short and long term.
  • Competence in setting priorities, navigating change management, and presenting opportunities to achieve desired outcomes with successful approaches to planning, problem solving, and decision making.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills with the ability to prove ability in research, synthesizing and analyzing data, composing documents, and presenting data.
  • Ability to manage diverse group dynamics while leading toward common goals.

Compensation is dependent upon experience.
