US EPA Community Change Grant Positions
Collaboratory, in partnership with Lee County Government, will be implementing a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Community Change Grant of more than $19.3 million to help communities tackle challenges related to disaster preparedness, workforce development, and stormwater management. This funding will increase community resilience.
The project will invest in four organizations to create the foundation of a network of community resilience hubs to support residents during emergencies, such as hurricanes. Resilience hubs are locations that increase access to supplies and social services for residents in under-resourced need every day. Intending to expand and improve the county’s emergency response planning and implementation network, the hubs will transition in a disaster to provide critical information, emergency support, and health supplies to the surrounding communities.
Furthermore, the project supports workforce development priorities by expanding FutureMakers Coalition’s efforts to transform Southwest Florida’s workforce to fill in-demand jobs. This will include increasing and expanding training programs in the Construction Sector and removing barriers for those who need training to get into good jobs and careers here in Southwest Florida.
Finally, the project will address stormwater management and increase access to Ten Mile Canal in partnership with the City of Fort Myers.
