Setting up a nonprofit corporation involves a lot more than creating your website, opening your doors to clients and starting to fundraise. It’s a tricky and costly process, and might not be the best choice. Learn about the incorporation process and alternatives that may be more appropriate, such as fiscal sponsorship. You’ll leave with knowledge about the nonprofit incorporation process, tax laws to consider, fiscal sponsorship and a template to help you map out your idea and figure out the next step.

About the Presenter:

Jeff Fromknecht is Counsel in Dentons Cohen & Grigsby Pittsburg, PA and Naples, FL offices and a member of the Nonprofit and Tax-Exempt Organization and Political Law Practice Groups. His dual licensure in Pennsylvania and Florida enables him to offer his expertise to nonprofit organizations in both states, ensuring that his clients receive the best possible legal support for their specific needs. He holds graduate degrees in both social work and law and has over 20 years of experience working at nonprofit organizations in a variety of direct-service and administrative roles. He is licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania, Florida, and before the United States Tax Court. His clients include a variety of tax-exempt entities, including universities, health and human service providers, scholarship funds, corporate foundations, private foundations, social welfare organizations, and political action committees. Jeff’s work focuses on assisting these clients to understand and navigate the corporate, tax, and compliance issues impacting their work, this includes nonprofit mergers and affiliation agreements, fiscal sponsorship issues, dissolutions, charitable solicitation registration and compliance, governance questions, establishment and registration of political action committees and corporate reorganizations and restructuring. I also work with founders and start-up projects to help them get incorporated, establish a Board and bylaws, and apply for tax-exempt status.
